Nayax Cash Only on a Vending Machine: What V00, V01 and V02 Mean

Read the code beside the message before treating the fault as a failed card reader.

“Cash Only” on a Nayax vending terminal is a general out-of-order message. The code beside it gives the more useful clue. V00, V01 and V02 describe different conditions between the payment device and the vending machine controller, so they should not lead to the same repair request.

First record the exact code

Nayax’s Cash Only code overview separates three MDB conditions. Photograph the message and code, record the machine and terminal references, and note when it appeared. Keep customer card details out of the record.

The wording alone does not establish that the machine can complete a cash purchase, that the card reader needs replacement, or that mobile reception is the cause. Record what the installed equipment actually shows.

V00: no MDB signal from the machine

Nayax describes V00 as no MDB signal from the vending machine to the payment device. Its listed possible causes include an incorrect or faulty cable, cashless operation not enabled on the controller board, and an incorrect device protocol.

Send that code to the machine supplier or payment integrator with the equipment identification and recent changes. The useful question is whether the connection and configured protocol match the installation. Do not buy an antenna or replacement reader solely because the terminal is not accepting cards.

V01: waiting for controller initialization

V01 means the MDB connection is inactive and waiting for vending machine controller initialization. Nayax associates this with the controller startup sequence and MDB flag configuration.

Provide the code and startup observations to the responsible technician. Ask them to check the controller and applicable settings for this machine. A flag value in a general support table should not become a universal configuration instruction for every cabinet or reader.

V02: the controller has disabled the reader

The official interactive troubleshooting guide explains that V02 follows a READER DISABLE command from the controller without the READER ENABLE command needed to reactivate cashless payment.

Its known causes include an open machine door, service mode, an active cash transaction or remaining cash credit, and a machine-board fault. Record whether the message appeared during a refill or service visit and whether the cabinet has returned to its normal operating state. Resolve an unfinished cash transaction through the machine’s documented process.

Do not defeat a door switch or other interlock to make the message disappear. If the machine remains disabled in its normal state, the controller and payment-device interaction needs investigation; the code does not by itself prove that the terminal hardware has failed.

Close the service call with evidence

Nayax asks operators seeking further help to have the device serial number, error code and completed troubleshooting steps ready. Include the time and any controller or terminal changes as well. Use the provider’s instructions for the identified equipment before changing settings or disconnecting wiring.

After an authorised repair, verify the normal ready state and a complete purchase-and-delivery sequence. These are suggested operator checks, not a report of a completed WEIMI repair. For broader symptoms, see our card reader checks before a service call.

For a new vending machine order, ask WEIMI to identify the proposed payment configuration and who supports controller-to-reader faults. Include your destination and payment provider with your enquiry. Get My Custom Quote.
