Water Vending Machines: Sealed Bottles, Refill or Bottle Exchange?

Define what the customer receives before comparing cabinets, treatment systems or return arrangements.

Before buying a water vending machine, specify the transaction: does the customer collect a sealed bottle, fill an empty container or take a pre-filled replacement bottle? The answer changes the product, equipment and daily work you need to assess. A refrigerated drink cabinet and a self-service refill station should not be compared as if they perform the same task.

Sealed bottled water: the machine delivers a retail package

In WEIMI’s published Australian bottled-water project, the documented installation was indoors, with a large glass front, touchscreen selection and a blue branded exterior. Customers selected and collected stocked bottles. The source does not describe on-site water treatment or filling a customer’s container.

For this format, start with the exact sealed retail bottles. Provide height, diameter, filled weight and any multipack packaging. Ask for a loading layout and dispensing demonstration with those units. The supplier must assess the package the customer receives, rather than infer compatibility from the phrase bottled water.

The Australian record does not disclose installed payment details, bottle capacity, cooling settings or measured sales. Those remain quotation questions for a new project. Our glass-front bottled-water buying brief explores that equipment format in more detail.

Self-service refill: the customer brings the container

Primo’s official refill page, reviewed on 8 November 2026, describes customers bringing clean, reusable 1-, 3- or 5-gallon bottles to its self-service stations. It also describes a water-treatment process for its own service, including filtration, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet light.

That is a different process from delivering an already sealed retail bottle. A buyer assessing refill equipment needs to establish the incoming water requirements, treatment specification, supported containers, filling process and cleaning and maintenance responsibilities. Request the equipment documentation and the evidence relevant to the intended installation.

Primo’s process is an example of its service. It does not establish the treatment performance of an unrelated cabinet, and it does not verify a WEIMI refill configuration. A general water-vending description is insufficient evidence for purification, water quality or a particular filling volume.

Bottle exchange: pre-filled stock replaces an empty bottle

Primo’s exchange page describes pre-filled 5-gallon bottles available through exchange racks at participating retailers. Its “bring a bottle, take a bottle” model differs from filling the customer’s existing bottle at a nozzle.

The published example is a retail exchange service. It does not establish that the rack automatically takes payment, accepts empty bottles or dispenses replacements. If you want an unattended exchange machine, request evidence of those specific steps rather than assuming a retail exchange programme already provides them.

Describe how full and returned containers will be stored and handled, who replenishes the full bottles and who collects the empties. Ask the proposed provider to document any bottle eligibility, credit or deposit rules. Those commercial and handling arrangements are separate from cabinet capacity.

Choose the brief before requesting a quotation

For sealed-bottle vending, send the retail package list and the intended stock quantity between visits. For refill, define the source water, customer containers and required filling service. For exchange, identify the pre-filled bottle supply and the empty-container return process. Have the responsible local team confirm the requirements applicable to the selected operation.

Do not infer environmental savings, water safety, operating hours or returns from the format name alone. Each depends on the actual supply chain, documentation and site routine. The examples above establish different customer journeys; they do not provide a universal performance or profit comparison.

Tell WEIMI which of these three transactions you need, your installation location and the products or containers involved. Ask which configuration can be assessed and which functions remain unconfirmed. Get My Custom Quote.
