Automatic Coffee Machines: Does Two-Step Preparation Suit Self-Service?

Check who finishes the milk drink before choosing equipment for an unattended location.

An automatic coffee machine is not enough of a specification for an unattended location. If the proposal describes two-step preparation, ask who performs each step and how the customer receives the finished drink. Automation of one task does not document the whole service journey.

What does a two-step machine look like?

Franke describes its Mytico Due as offering automatic two-step beverage preparation and a fully automatic steam wand. Its product presentation is aimed at barista service. This is a useful example of why the word automatic needs a workflow explanation: the advertised steam-wand automation belongs to a particular service approach.

Use that example to ask better purchasing questions. It does not establish that WEIMI supplies this model or that its workflow can be installed as an unattended vending solution.

Who completes the milk drink?

Ask the proposed supplier to demonstrate the exact recipe from selection to handover. Identify who places the cup, handles any milk container, starts the milk process and combines the components if the recipe requires it. Record which actions the quoted configuration performs and which actions remain with an employee or customer.

For a staffed counter, those actions can be part of the intended service. For a location described as unattended, they need a separate review. Do not infer that an automatic steam wand means a customer receives a complete milk drink after one selection.

What should the supplier demonstrate?

Choose a drink from the intended menu and request a continuous demonstration on the proposed configuration. Ask the demonstrator to explain every manual action. Then confirm how cups, milk supplies, payment and drink collection fit together, including which equipment is included in the quote.

If the demonstration uses a staff member to finish the drink, record that requirement. If a different configuration is proposed for self-service, request its own workflow and documentation. A video of a related model is not confirmation of the quoted arrangement.

How does this affect the purchase brief?

State whether trained staff will be present during service hours, what the customer should do and which drinks must be available. Ask the supplier to answer against that operating model. Keep cleaning and replenishment responsibilities in the plan even when drink preparation is automated.

Our fresh milk versus powder operating guide addresses ingredient handling and cleaning. This decision comes earlier: whether the proposed preparation sequence matches the people available to operate it.

Get My Custom Quote by sharing the intended menu, destination, staffed hours and expected customer steps. Request confirmation for the specific equipment configuration before treating it as an unattended coffee service.
