Introduction

A supplier offers a replacement temperature probe marked 10 kΩ. The old vending probe is also described as 10 kΩ, the connector looks right and the cable reaches the mounting point. It is tempting to close the spare-parts review there. The missing question is what resistance each probe produces at the other temperatures the controller needs to interpret.

The nominal value needs a reference temperature. An R25 designation refers to resistance at 25 °C; it is not a complete resistance-versus-temperature description. A purchasing decision must connect the proposed probe to the curve the controller expects, as well as its mechanical and environmental requirements. This matters only where the actual assembly uses an NTC thermistor. Other sensor technologies need their own identification.

Vishay’s published R-T table FAQ explains nominal reference resistance, curve ratios, coefficients and beta values defined over named temperature pairs. This guide turns those distinctions into a procurement handover: identify the original probe, obtain the proposed curve and ask the equipment supplier to approve the exact controller-and-probe combination. It does not diagnose a particular cabinet or certify a replacement.

02

Quick Answer

Two probes described as 10 kΩ are not proven interchangeable. First establish the reference temperature, then compare the documented resistance-temperature curve and its tolerances over the relevant operating range. Obtain the equipment supplier’s approval for the exact probe assembly and controller configuration before treating it as a fleet spare.

Read beta labels in full. A B25/85 value and a B25/50 value refer to different temperature pairs. Different numerical values with different subscripts do not automatically prove that two parts have different curves; equal-looking beta numbers without their temperature pairs do not establish equivalence either. The curve or approved coefficient set provides the fuller comparison.

A room-temperature reading, a matching plug or an offset adjustment is insufficient evidence of a complete match. Ask for the supplier’s specified verification process and acceptance limits. Keep any product-storage or temperature-control decision within the operator’s approved process while the replacement is unresolved.

03

Comparison Table

What the quote says Information it provides Evidence still required
10 kΩ probe A resistance value without a complete definition Reference temperature, tolerance and part identity
R25 = 10 kΩ Nominal resistance at 25 °C R-T curve and tolerance across the intended range
Beta = a stated number An incomplete curve-related parameter Temperature pair, tolerance and applicable curve
B25/85 with a stated value Beta evaluated over the named temperature pair Comparable full curve and controller approval
Approved probe assembly for controller revision A defined replacement candidate Applicable installation and verification record

Keep the source of every value visible in the technical file. Do not combine the reference resistance from one revision with a curve taken from a similarly named product. A replacement should be traceable as one specified assembly.

Who Should Buy This

Operators holding temperature probes as local spares should use this review before adding an alternate supplier. It is particularly useful when a distributor lists many probes under one generic resistance value, or when the original service label contains a manufacturer code that has not been carried into the purchase order.

Equipment buyers can apply the same questions when choosing a maintenance package. An operator who purchases complete approved assemblies may need the supplier’s replacement reference and verification instructions. A team sourcing individual sensing elements needs a more detailed technical review and a clearly assigned approval owner.

This article is not a guide to choosing food-storage temperatures or determining whether stock remains suitable for sale. The procurement issue is the identity of the sensing assembly and its interpretation by the installed controller. Food-business procedures and equipment control requirements must be assessed separately for the actual application.

How We Evaluate Smart Vending Machines

The three machines below are a procurement shortlist based on public product listings, not independently tested recommendations. Public pages establish their shopping formats. They do not identify the fitted temperature sensor technology, thermistor curve, controller conversion table or approved replacement part. We do not award any machine a sensor-compatibility score.

Our proposed evaluation starts with a configuration request: identify the quoted cabinet version, controller revision and approved sensor assembly where temperature sensing is part of the specified equipment. Ask whether the service part includes its cable, connector and housing. The supplier should state which identity controls a replacement purchase.

Next, request the technical comparison appropriate to the proposed change. For an NTC assembly, this includes the relevant reference resistance and curve evidence, plus the controller’s supported input configuration. If the supplier will not disclose internal conversion details, it can still provide a controlled assembly reference and written compatibility approval with a verification procedure.

Finally, agree how the completed service work will be accepted and recorded. A point check of a reading is different from evidence about the operating range. The supplier should define the scope and limits of its verification. These are proposed purchasing criteria, not tests we have conducted on the shortlisted machines.

06

Key Buying Factors

Reference resistance and temperature. Ask for the full notation and tolerance. Do not silently translate 10 kΩ into R25 = 10 kΩ unless the manufacturer’s record says so. Preserve the exact part number and document revision beside the value.

Curve identity. Request an R-T table, supported coefficients or a controlled curve reference over the range relevant to the application. Vishay explains that normalized RT/R25 ratios describe a curve across different reference-resistance values. A nominal resistance number alone therefore leaves out important information.

Beta temperature pair. Retain the subscripts when transcribing specifications. The cited FAQ shows that the same example curve can be described by different beta values for different temperature pairs. Comparing bare numbers can produce both false mismatches and false confidence.

Tolerance across temperature. Ask how resistance tolerances vary over the required range and how the supplier translates them into the proposed acceptance limits. A resistance tolerance at one reference point is not automatically a complete system accuracy specification. Controller electronics and the installed assembly remain part of the system review.

Assembly construction. Confirm housing, cable, connector and mounting requirements against the original approved part. A matching electrical curve does not by itself approve a housing for the installed environment. Conversely, an identical connector does not prove a matching curve. Record both electrical and physical evidence.

Controller configuration. Identify whether the proposed replacement uses the existing input setting or an approved configuration change. Require the supplier to describe the controlled route. Do not use an arbitrary display offset as a substitute for resolving curve compatibility.

Verification ownership. Agree who approves the alternate, who supplies the evidence and who records the post-service result. The buyer should not have to infer approval from a distributor’s broad compatible description. A written reference makes future reorders easier to audit.

Best Smart Vending Machines

These real product listings give three retail formats to discuss with WEIMI. Choose among them using the actual assortment and operating plan, then request configuration-specific sensing and service information. No NTC type or temperature performance is inferred from their inclusion.

WEIMI WM22 touchscreen snack-and-drink machine

The WM22 page presents touchscreen snack-and-drink vending with adjustable product lanes. It is a candidate when the buyer wants a conventional selection-and-dispense journey. Product fit and delivery remain matters for a demonstration with the proposed packages.

For a quote that includes temperature-controlled storage, ask which controller and sensing assembly are supplied in that exact configuration. Request the approved spare reference and service check. The public format description does not establish an R25 value, a beta pair or a particular sensor curve.

WEIMI single-door AI vision fridge

The single-door AI vision fridge page describes customers opening the cabinet, selecting packaged products and closing it for checkout. This is a packaged-product retail format; it is not described here as equipment that squeezes juice. Its shopping flow is distinct from a conventional lane machine.

Ask how the quoted configuration identifies and services its temperature-sensing assembly. If a local contractor will replace probes, include the approved part reference and verification responsibilities in the handover. The existence of a fridge format does not establish the internal sensor technology or prove a third-party probe compatible.

WEIMI dual-cabinet vending machine

The dual-cabinet page shows a main display together with a smaller secondary spiral-lane compartment and a portrait menu/payment area. Buyers can shortlist it for a combined merchandising concept while confirming the actual product routes in their proposal.

Do not assume both sections have the same storage arrangement, controller or sensor assembly. Ask the supplier to identify the supplied configuration and any section-specific spares. A single generic temperature-probe line on the spare list may need clarification if more than one assembly is actually installed.

08

Feature Comparison

Shortlist candidate Public-format basis Configuration question
WM22 Touchscreen snack-and-drink machine; adjustable lanes Which sensor assembly belongs to the quoted storage configuration?
Single-door AI vision fridge Open/select/close packaged-product shopping What approved probe and service verification are supplied?
Dual-cabinet machine Main display and secondary spiral-lane compartment Are sensing and spare references specific to each section?

These questions are RFQ prompts, not advertised technical features. The comparison omits operating temperature ranges, probe accuracy, cooling capacity and pricing because those facts have not been established for the exact quoted configurations.

09

Cost & ROI Analysis

Evaluate the economics after the technical approval route is defined. A cheaper probe cannot be credited with a saving if it has not been approved for the controller. Equally, requesting documentation does not prove that the alternative will fail; the cost model should describe uncertainty without inventing a failure rate.

Hypothetical inputs only: assume 40 planned spare assemblies, an approved alternative priced $12 below the existing option, a one-time compatibility review costing $180 and an incremental service visit costing $75. These values are fictional planning assumptions, not supplier prices or observed operating results. Taxes, freight, stock losses and routine installation are excluded.

The assumed gross purchase saving is 40 × $12 = $480. After the assumed $180 review, $300 remains. Four incremental visits at $75 each would consume that amount. This threshold is an arithmetic scenario, not a forecast of additional visits or an acceptable error budget for temperature control.

Assumed incremental visits Assumed visit cost Net saving after review
0 $0 $300
2 $150 $150
4 $300 $0
6 $450 −$150

Use written quotes and the actual maintenance boundary to replace these inputs. If the supplier supports only a complete probe-and-cable assembly, compare that assembly rather than a bare sensing element. Include any agreed configuration work and verification cost in the comparison.

Do not turn a possible reading mismatch into a stock-loss estimate without evidence about the actual control process. No product waste reduction, energy saving, payback period or sales uplift is claimed here. The model illustrates how small component savings can depend on the service work attached to a substitution.

10

Best Choice by Scenario

An original spare is available: confirm the controlled part reference and revision, then follow the equipment supplier’s service and verification process. An authentic part still needs to be the correct assembly for the cabinet being serviced.

A distributor offers a same-resistance alternative: request the reference temperature, complete curve evidence and assembly details. Submit them for equipment-level approval before adding the alternate to normal spare stock. A connector match can support identification, but it cannot close the electrical review.

Two datasheets show different beta numbers: inspect the temperature pairs first. Obtain comparable curve information rather than rejecting or accepting the part from the bare numbers. Preserve the original notation when asking the supplier to explain the comparison.

A controller and probe are being replaced together: ask for approval of the proposed pair and its configuration. The old curve is relevant to the change record, but the new system must be evaluated against the required equipment behavior. Keep old and new service references clearly separated.

11

Applications

A central spare store can keep the curve reference beside each approved probe assembly, together with its permitted cabinet and controller revisions. This prevents the warehouse label from gradually shrinking to a resistance number that several distinct parts happen to share.

A local service contractor can use the same record to check a substitution request before dispatch. The technical reviewer needs the installed assembly identity and the proposed replacement evidence. A photograph, a disconnected resistance reading and an incomplete description may help start that conversation, but should not be presented as a completed approval.

For a multinational fleet, standardize the evidence fields rather than assume one probe fits every regional configuration. The cabinet model name may cover several supplied versions. Tie each approved spare to the actual equipment documentation and agreed service responsibility. No destination-specific compliance conclusion follows from this record structure.

FAQ

Does 10 kΩ always mean 10 kΩ at 25 °C?

Do not infer the reference temperature from the bare value. Ask for the manufacturer notation. R25 explicitly refers to the resistance at 25 °C.

Can two probes have the same R25 but require different curves?

The reference resistance does not define the whole resistance-temperature relationship. Obtain the applicable curve or controlled specification and equipment-supplier approval.

Why can the same curve have different beta numbers?

Beta is defined over a stated temperature pair. Vishay’s FAQ gives different beta values for different pairs in its example. Keep those pairs attached to every comparison.

Will a display offset fix an unverified replacement?

A one-point adjustment does not establish agreement across the intended range. Resolve the curve and controller compatibility through the supplier’s approved process.

Do the shortlisted machines use a 10 kΩ NTC probe?

That has not been established from the public product pages. Their inclusion describes retail formats, not a sensor bill of materials.

What should accompany an alternate-probe approval?

The exact assembly identity, applicable curve evidence, compatible controller configuration, authorized substitution record and supplier-defined verification requirements.

13

Final Recommendation

Buy a defined probe assembly for a defined controller configuration. Establish the nominal resistance at its reference temperature, preserve beta temperature pairs and obtain curve evidence over the range that matters. Treat physical fit, curve compatibility and installed verification as separate parts of the same approval record.

For new vending equipment, choose the shopping format and product-handling capability first, then make service documentation part of the quote. A clear approved-spare route is more useful than a generic promise that any probe with the same resistance will work.

Sources & Evidence Boundaries

Vishay R.I.F.A.Q., Non-linear Resistor, Questions about R-T tables was read on 21 October 2026. It supports the distinctions between reference resistance, normalized curves, curve coefficients, beta temperature pairs and temperature-dependent tolerance. The purchasing recommendations are editorial applications of those distinctions; they do not approve a particular probe.

The three linked WEIMI product pages support only the public-format descriptions, with same-date page evidence retained locally. No hardware was independently tested. No sensor part, accuracy, price, customer outcome, search volume, ranking or Google indexing result is claimed. All financial inputs and resulting cost scenarios are explicitly hypothetical.
