The Bottle Price Is Not the Price per Litre: A Vending Information Buying Brief

Separate selling price, declared quantity and comparison basis, then verify the customer-visible result for the destination.

WEIMI / PRICE INFORMATION WORKBOOK

One price to buy.
Another basis to compare.

Connect selling price, declared quantity and destination review before approving the retail screen.

01

Introduction

Two bottles carry the same selling price, but one contains less liquid. A customer can see what the checkout will charge and still lack a useful basis for comparing the offers. A vending buyer who adds a second price field needs to know what that number means, which quantity supports it and whether the destination requires it for the actual sales format.

The EU Price Indication Directive distinguishes selling price from unit price. Selling price concerns the final price for the product unit or given quantity. Unit price concerns the final price for a standard measure, such as a litre or kilogram, or another quantity unit widely and customarily used in the relevant Member State. Both definitions include VAT and other taxes.

This guide builds a procurement brief for accurate comparative-price information. It does not announce a universal requirement for all vending machines. The directive includes Member State options, and a historical Commission report describes different treatment of automatic sales. Current national rules and the actual installation must be assessed separately.

02

Quick Answer

Do not use a per-litre comparison figure as the amount charged for a bottle. Do not calculate from gross shipping weight, a cabinet sensor signal or an estimated portion. The quantity basis needs to match the supported product and the applicable requirements.

An optional field on a screen is not proof of automatic unit-price calculation. Ask which functions the quote includes and verify the observed result. A correctly calculated spreadsheet does not prove that the live cabinet shows the same current figure.

03

Comparison Table

Number What it describes Evidence needed
Selling price The final price for the offered product unit or quantity. The actual offer and reviewed tax-inclusive consumer price.
Unit price A final price on the supported standard comparison basis. The relevant declared quantity, comparison unit and reviewed calculation.
Stock count How many sellable items are available. The operational inventory record, not a substitute for package quantity.
Gross pack weight The finished pack’s total physical weight. Useful for handling where relevant; not automatically the unit-price basis.

Article 4 of the consolidated directive says selling and unit prices must be unambiguous, easily identifiable and clearly legible. It also ties the unit price to a quantity declared according to relevant national and Community provisions. Where net and drained weight are required for certain prepacked products, the text provides a specific drained-weight rule.

Those distinctions matter before a product data import. A generic weight column is not enough if staff cannot tell whether it represents declared contents, shipping weight or a measured cabinet signal. Preserve the meaning with the value.

04

Who Should Buy This

Use this brief for an EU packaged-drink or food project where comparative-price presentation is under review, or for a distributor specifying a reusable product-information workflow across destinations. It suits buyers who need to avoid stale price ratios when suppliers change package sizes.

This question differs from deciding whether a machine dispenses a multipack or one item. The physical sellable unit must already be defined. Here the task is to link its selling price and supported quantity to a clear comparison basis without changing the checkout amount.

Assign responsibility for national applicability, approved product data, calculation and live release. A global English equipment guide cannot determine every Member State’s current exemptions or every smart-fridge classification. Record the destination decision with the project, rather than borrowing an answer from another country’s pilot.

How We Evaluate Smart Vending Machines

This is a desk-based shortlist reviewed on 8 October 2026. The equipment references are three actual WEIMI listings: the WM22 touchscreen snacks-and-drinks machine, the single-door AI vision smart fridge and the hot-food retail machine with microwave oven. The comparison describes listed retail formats and proposed acceptance work, not an independently tested ranking.

The legal source is EUR-Lex’s consolidated text of Directive 98/6/EC dated 28 May 2022, identified as the current consolidated version on the act’s page during review. A Commission implementation report dated 21 June 2006 is used only to demonstrate historical national differences. Its country examples are not treated as verified current exemptions.

No machine unit-price module, automated quantity validation or legal compliance status is established here. We have not tested the equipment or audited an operator. The buyer should request an actual demonstration where the quotation depends on a calculation or display function.

06

Key Buying Factors

Establish applicability before setting a field mandatory

Articles 3 and 5 describe the general indication requirements and qualifications. Member States may waive unit-price indications for products where they would not be useful or would cause confusion. Other provisions address specific situations, including a transitional small-retailer option. Have the actual destination and sales arrangement reviewed; do not turn one provision into a permanent universal vending exemption.

Identify the exact declared quantity

Obtain the finished product’s supported label and supplier record. Distinguish volume from weight, and confirm the applicable comparison unit. A bottle size inferred from a photograph or a meal weight copied from a different recipe is not reliable input. Leave unresolved data out of an approved live calculation until it is corrected.

Make unit conversion explicit

Keep the source quantity and its unit together. Millilitres and litres must not occupy the same numerical column without a documented conversion. A quantity of 500 without its unit should not generate a ratio. Review how any supported software stores, displays and rounds the figure; this article does not prescribe a universal rounding convention.

Coordinate pack-size and price changes

A selling price can stay the same while declared contents change. If an old and new pack are both stocked, define which product record and visible description applies to each. A cloud stock alert does not prove package-version control or automatically update a comparison ratio. Confirm the workflow actually included.

Check the full customer-visible route

Demonstrate the actual screen or other reviewed presentation with the correct item identity. Inspect whether the comparison basis and selling price can be distinguished. Check the view before payment where relevant to the reviewed route, and assess the quoted layout against the actual national requirements. No legal font size or universally sufficient screen is asserted here.

Keep promotion rules separate

Unit pricing is not a substitute for the rules on announcing reductions or showing prior prices. The consolidated text includes Article 6a on reductions, but this article does not assess a specific campaign. A comparison ratio does not justify a savings claim, and a crossed-out price should not silently become an unreviewed promotion.

Best Smart Vending Machines: Three Conditional Information Routes

These supplier-listed products represent different buying routes. The word best describes a conditional shortlist for assessment, not independently tested superiority or verified legal compliance.

SELECTION-AND-DISPENSE

WEIMI WM22 Touchscreen Snacks & Drinks Machine

The WM22 listing describes a 21.5-inch touchscreen, cooling and optional adjustable slots, including spiral, belt, direct-push and hanging arrangements.

Shortlist question: Can the quoted configuration associate a clear selling price and the reviewed comparative information with a defined packaged item?

Demonstration: Submit the actual packs. Test delivery separately, then demonstrate the supported product-content workflow with approved price and quantity data. Confirm whether calculation is automatic, manually entered or outside the supplied functions.

DIRECT-ACCESS RETAIL

WEIMI Single-Door AI Vision Smart Fridge

The single-door AI fridge page describes compatible packaged drinks and snacks, camera checkout and cloud management. It calls for actual product images and recognition testing when adding SKUs.

Shortlist question: How does the real direct-access shopper journey provide the reviewed price information for the actual stocked range?

Demonstration: Assess the arrangement’s national classification separately. Test actual packs, similar items and mixed baskets. Confirm the included customer-information channel; do not assume a product page or app field exists.

PREPARED-MEAL RETAIL

WEIMI Hot Food Retail Machine with Microwave Oven

The hot-food listing describes a microwave oven, touchscreen, inventory tracking and weight sensing. The exact heating workflow needs quotation-specific confirmation.

Shortlist question: Is comparative-price information useful or required for the actual meal offer and destination, and what quantity basis has been approved?

Demonstration: Keep the exact meal variant attached to its supported record. Confirm integrated versus separate heating and the purchase steps. Test finished trays and the approved visible offer through the actual configuration.

Feature Comparison

Acceptance dimension WM22 AI fridge Hot-food retail
Listed customer journey Selection and configured delivery Direct access and camera checkout Meal retail with microwave provision
Quantity evidence Exact packaged-item record Exact packaged-item record Supported meal record; applicability review
Physical test Actual pack and delivery path Recognition, arrangement and basket Actual tray and confirmed workflow
Unit-price function verified? No No No

A quotation should name the supported fields and update procedure. Ask how a changed pack size or price reaches the actual customer view, and who verifies the result. Do not buy an assumed calculation feature from a generic cloud-management description.

The display assessment and the stock assessment can pass or fail independently. Correct item recognition does not establish that the ratio is current. A correct ratio does not prove that a pack can be safely delivered or handled. Keep both acceptance records.

09

Cost & ROI Analysis

Do not release these sample figures against a real stocked product. They demonstrate that the selling price and the comparison figure have different meanings, and that changing quantity changes the ratio even without a price change. Actual data and the destination’s applicable calculation requirements must be reviewed.

For an internal data-review budget, assume 16 product records take 15 minutes each at an assumed loaded labour rate of €28 per hour. The allowance is 16 × 15 ÷ 60 × €28 = €112. This is a planning illustration, not observed work time, a software fee or a sufficient professional-review budget.

Obtain current quotes for any confirmed content or calculation functions, training and support. For retail planning, monthly operating contribution equals completed sales multiplied by contribution per sale, less fixed costs. Deduct product and variable selling costs in the per-sale contribution. Simple payback uses initial investment divided by positive contribution, excluding financing, taxes and replacement investment in that simplified calculation.

No sales improvement from unit-price display is measured here. Use actual operating records rather than inventing a conversion uplift or claiming that a new data field makes an investment profitable. Non-positive operating contribution does not yield positive payback under the formula.

Best Choice by Scenario

A fixed bottled-drink assortment

Discuss the WM22 with the actual finished packs and approved offer records. Once applicability is reviewed, demonstrate the distinction between amount charged and comparison basis. A bottle-size change should trigger a relevant data and visible-content review, not only a stock-count update.

A direct-access fridge with mixed package sizes

Discuss the AI fridge’s real customer-information channel and classification. Keep size and variant records separate, and test recognition with the actual range. Do not presume the camera validates a price-per-litre value or guarantees the shopper saw the correct display.

Prepared meals with several components

Review whether a unit-price indication is applicable or useful for the actual destination and product before choosing a basis. Discuss the hot-food format with supported meal data and a confirmed handling workflow. Avoid deriving a legal conclusion from a generic meal weight or one historical exemption example.

11

Applications

Offer record

Product and pack version; approved selling price; supported declared quantity and unit; comparison basis; reviewed calculation; destination decision.

Release record

Quoted content functions; observed customer view; stock version; person approving the update; date and evidence of the live result.

Before release, test a price-only change and a quantity-only change using clearly identified internal data. Confirm what the supported workflow actually updates. If a ratio remains stale or a field is absent, resolve the scope before relying on it for the project.

At refill, compare received packaging with the approved identity. If the contents or pack version differ, route the change to the named data owner. This is a proposed operating workbook, not an EU form, software certification or assurance of legal compliance.

FAQ

Is unit price the amount charged for one vend?

Not necessarily. Selling price describes the offered unit or quantity; unit price uses the supported comparison measure. Label the two meanings clearly.

Must every EU vending machine show unit prices?

This article does not establish that. The directive contains national options and the historical report describes different treatment. Review the current national rules and actual sales format.

Are historical country exemptions reliable today?

A 2006 report is not verification of a current exemption. It demonstrates why a destination-specific review is needed, not the answer for a 2026 installation.

Can cabinet weight sensing supply the quantity?

No declared-quantity validation or unit-price calculation is established by the cited sensing description. Obtain the actual supported product record.

Does a touchscreen automatically include calculation?

No. Confirm the quoted fields, calculation and update process in a demonstration. Do not infer the function from screen size.

Is this a new 2026 price rule?

No. The sources are an established directive’s consolidated text and a historical implementation report. The article’s October 2026 review is not a new effective date.

13

Final Recommendation

Build the comparison on supported offer data and a recorded destination decision. Keep selling price, declared quantity, comparison unit and stock count distinct. Verify the actual customer view after a pack or price change.

Shortlist the WM22, AI fridge or hot-food format for the actual retail journey, with separate pack and information tests. Neither a sensor nor a screen grants a legal status to the display. Buy only the functions the quotation and demonstration support.
